The Hidden History of Black Women in WWII

Dante Brizill, author of “Greatness Under Fire”, spoke recently at the Hastings Branch Library about the role black women played during WWII, both at home and overseas. The contributions of women, particularly black women, in the history of our country have been hidden.  As Brizill has said, “there seems to be a hunger” for these stories of heroism, excellence and perseverance.  

This was my second time to hear the author speak of his book and his research. Last year he was consumed with his work as a high school history teacher, as well as his consulting with the filming of “Six Triple Eight.”  He has been dedicated to his teaching as well as his passion for hidden histories.
