“I won’t have another child because I can’t take the chance.”

“Take a chance on what Irene, what is your concern?”

There would be no concern if I could be certain that the child would be a boy.”

“What, you don’t want another girl?”

“If the child was a girl, and she looked like Spike, I could not love her.  We were lucky with our Shirley.  She looks like me.  I think men and boys who look like Spike are gorgeous, but any female who looks like Spike would be ugly, to me.  I can’t help how I feel.  Any female darker than you Lora is ugly.”

My skin is light brown.  Spike, a handsome man, with chiseled features, the body of an athlete, was almost “coffee-Black.”  Irene was Romanian.
