The Vintage Event: Aging Like a Fine Wine
This year our Vintage Celebration was hosted in the Scott Pavillion of Pasadena Senior Center, which was ideal for the hundred guests who came. The Vintage party was a chance to reconnect with old friends, make new ones and meet our Village sponsors. It was also a chance to feel young again as the music played familiar songs of our generation. In her opening remarks, Village President of the Board of Directors Bridget Brewster said, “I’m thrilled to be here with everyone celebrating aging. There’s nothing quite like a party to remind us; it’s not about the years we have left in our life, but the life we have left in our years.”
The party included a buffet of delicious food provided by Jodi Taffel’s Bacon Babe Catering, a wine bar and Wine Pull (Thank you, John and Virgi Merriam), a silent auction, a raffle, magician Alan Rich and photographers Marlyn Woo and Joanne Wilborn (who always make us look good!). Great live music was provided to us by Art Deco Entertainment at no cost.
The music played quietly in the background while everyone was arriving, but it soon grew livelier. It inspired me and others to get out on the dance floor. I asked Dick Myers to dance (with his walker and several happy Villagers) because I had seen him enjoy dancing at a Clazzical Notes event. We were having lots of fun, so I asked the band to play Creedence Clearwater, and they responded with a great rendition of “Proud Mary.” That got several people up out of their chairs and moving to the beat, including some of our sponsors!
We are so grateful to our sponsors: East West Bank, Altadena Rotary, Clifford Swan and Kaiser Permanente. This fabulous event that celebrates aging couldn’t happen without their generous support. We offered our appreciation to our Business Partners at a private reception before the evening began.
And we are grateful to you - our members - who through your willingness to support YOUR Village - raised $19,000 during our only fundraising event of the year.
It was a great party, and I think everyone enjoyed it. I know I did!
