Critical Race Theory?

Our next meeting on November 5th, we would like to discuss Critical Race Theory. This is very much in the news at the moment, with very little clarity about what it really means or what its impact is. On the one hand, there is a lot of opposition to what is referred to as "Critical Race Theory", but the description of what is opposed seems to bear little relation to what the phrase actually refers to. On the other hand, there is little in the press offered by proponents of Critical Race Theory and there is no evidence that Critical Race Theory is actively studied or taught at any level below college course material.

What is your understanding of the phrase "Critical Race Theory" and what is your opinion of the discussion about it that seems so prominent in the news?

In the coming months, we will be hearing from another distinguished speaker, Dr. Henry Foster. Dr. Foster served as Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology for Tuskegee Institute’s John Andrew Hospital, as well as Professor and Chairman for the department of OB/GYN at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, where he also served as Dean and acting President. Dr. Foster will be speaking on his autobiography called "Make a Difference: The Founder of the I Have a Future Program Shares His Vision for Young America". The date of his presentation will be announced at a later time.
