Transportation at the Pasadena Village
By Claire GorfinkelPosted: 02/28/2025
One of the many significant things that our Village offers is transportation. Some of us have stopped driving altogether; others no longer drive at night. Even those with cars sometimes need help getting to the mechanic when our vehicle is being serviced. Medical appointments, Village meetings, programs and gatherings, the airport, family events … Village volunteer drivers can usually help you get there.
But getting there is only part of the story. Sharing a ride, whether long or short, is also a way to get to know someone. Building community and caring for one another are among the most important things we do as a Village. Both driver and passenger benefit when we travel together.
Some people are reluctant to ask for a ride; they don’t want to be “a bother.” But building new friendships is never a bother, and as we remember how much we love to help others, maybe we can realize that asking for a ride means giving someone else the joy of being able to help.
Occasionally, Pasadena Village is not able to meet someone’s need for a ride. People need to let the office know in advance what their needs are, and sometimes that’s not possible. Longer distances or awkward timing may mean that no driver is available. We could always use more volunteer drivers. Contact Dan Guerrero, head of the transportation committee, if you are interested.
We also recently learned of a new transportation option, an LA County program that provides free taxi service – four rides or forty miles per month – for people over 65. The link below tells how to access it.

Getting where we need to be is really half the fun!
