TWO VILLAGES JOIN MISSIONS FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Those who bought beautiful hand-crafted items at 10,000 Villages last month, helped Pasadena Village as well as artisans in developing countries.

Walking into the Ten Thousand Villages shop on Lake Street feels like stepping into a well-curated global  market. It feels that way, because that’s what it is. On display are hundreds of beautifully hand-crafted items made by artisans in developing countries around the world.

A number of Villagers experienced this one-of-a-kind store for the first time, in December. During the week before Christmas, Ten Thousand Villages, itself a nonprofit, offered Pasadena Village a percent of every sale made to a supporters. “So, we had to check it out,” said one Villager.

Everything sold at Ten Thousand Villages is ethically sourced and fair traded. Store manager Laurel says that partnering with local nonprofits, which they do for other organizations as well, gets the word out about their shop and brings in new people. And it’s important to them to support the local community.

The first day of this partnership, Pasadena Village had a table with Village literature and holiday treats... and bubbly. After shopping, some Villagers headed over to The Arbour Restaurant a few doors down to enjoy the Village’s Very Happy Hour that was still going in full swing. 

Ten Thousand Villages is open year-round, so don’t forget them when looking for unique gifts for anyone... even yourself!
