10th Anniversary
By Blog MasterPosted: 10/05/2022
Dear Village members and friends,
In June, we celebrated Pasadena Village's past at the Annual Meeting, and we are taking the entire month of October to celebrate our present with Open October. We started with an engaging presentation at Altadena library with Helane Rheingold on Monday, October 3. Thirty members and friends shared their thoughts on women portraits through the years. Four Public Policy students from Cal State LA also attended to learn more about the needs of older adults in the community. Sonia Mendoza, Abraham Loera, Belinda Bravo, and Bernard Boy will attend other events throughout the month and look to facilitate a program in November.
Gatherings are member-run and we welcome you to meet us over meals, walks, or Zoom. See all of the Open October activities at on Eventbrite.
So many of you plan to join us for the 10th Anniversary Celebration on Thursday evening - the celebration of our future. This is an auspicious time for us, as we launch the implementation phase of our Strategic Plan. Hiring a new staff member, Priyanka Kumar, to revamp our volunteer program and coordinate all member services has been a huge first step. In addition, Barbara Madden has convened two task forces to explore member expectations and participation throughout the village. We will analyze the support we can offer and consider the impacts of membership growth.
We have welcomed over 20 new members since July 1, a rate that I don't think has been replicated since we began! Some are single and some couples, some are recently widowed, and some are caregivers. They are busy volunteering or recently retired or still working in some capacity. They are new residents to the area or some have been here for over 50 years.
We know that the village model works in Pasadena, and that more older adults are realizing they want a community they can rely on as they age. All in all we are growing and continue to see the community support our vision to create an environment where older adults can thrive as they age-in place.
Thank you for the part you play in Pasadena Village and helping us create the future of this mighty nonprofit organization together.
