OLDER ADULTS RESOURCE FAIR

On February 15 Pasadena Village celebrated the second annual “National Villages Day” with an Older Adults Resource Fair at the historic craftsman style Sierra Madre Women’s Club.  People from many areas of the San  Gabriel Valley visited the exhibit tables to learn about local nonprofits and businesses who offer services and support to older adults.  More than 40 exhibitors featuring everything from senior health care, senior housing, dog watching, exercising, and nutrition were kept busy talking with people who were interested in learning more about how to stay healthy and independent as they age.

Welcoming remarks were made by Anita Thompson from the Sierra Madre Senior Commission, followed by the appearance of Congresswomen Judy Chu who represents the San Gabriel Valley.  In her remarks, Congresswoman Chu reflected on the recent tragic event in Monterey Park that took the lives of older adults who were connecting and socializing with their friends at the Star Dance Studio.  “Places like the Star Dance Studio and organizations like Pasadena Village are more important than ever, and I really appreciate the work you do in building community for our seniors.”

Anne Marie Hickambottom, Field Representative of State Assemblyman Chris Holden also spoke and reiterated Mr. Holden’s commitment to older adults in our community.  She urged seniors to contact Mr. Holden for any help them may need in accessing services.

The mild, sunny weather helped create a festive, celebratory fair that combined helpful information and connections with lots of opportunities for meeting new people.  Coffee and bagels, combined with the goodies offered by many of the exhibitors were much appreciated.  And the opportunity to “Spin the Wheel” and win a prize at the Pasadena Village table added to the fun.

Thank you to our resource partners!
