Black Female Supreme Court Justice?
By Blog MasterPosted: 01/30/2022
Our first meeting of the month will be on February 4th at 10AM.As always there are a number of events and topics involved in race in America that would be interested to discuss. A momentous event is underway, which will get a lot of attention this week and weeks to come. That is the probably nomination for a black woman to be a Supreme Court Justice, to replace Breyer on his retirement. While there is no official list of who is being considered, speculation has identified six female candidates for this nomination, they are:
Ketanji Brown Jackson,51, serves as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit
, Leondra Kruger, 45, is a California Supreme Court justice.
J. Michelle Childs, 55, has served on the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina for more than a decade.
Anita Earls, 62, is an associate justice on the North Carolina Supreme Court, with a Yale Law School degree.
Wilhelmina “Mimi” Wright , 58, is a Minnesota federal district court judge appointed by President Barack Obama who has served since 2016.
Melissa Murray, 47, is a law professor at New York University who has raised her profile nationally through frequent media appearances on MSNBC and other outlets
The Washington post profiled a list of possible candidates. You can download a word document copy of the article.
Our second event for the month of February will be on the third Friday, February18th, at Noon Pacific, will feature Malissa Daniel, discussing her novel, The Warwick Will. This event is open to the public, and more information can be found on our Community Events page. Members of the Village can register through our 1619 Project Discussion Event Page and nonmembers who are interested in this or any of our other events should call the office at (626) 765-6037 for more information and registration.
