The Montgomery bus boycott was a pivotal event in the Civil Rights Movement, sparked by the arrest of Rosa Parks for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger. Lasting from December 1955 to December 1956, it was a nonviolent protest against segregated seating on public buses in Montgomery, Alabama. Led by civil rights leaders like Martin Luther King Jr., the boycott aimed to challenge racial segregation and discrimination in public transportation. The boycott ultimately led to the Supreme Court ruling that segregation on buses was unconstitutional, marking a significant victory for the Civil Rights Movement.

We will watch “Sitting for Justice: The Montgomery Bus Boycott” a 2022 TV program that explores the Montgomery Bus Boycott. After the program we will have a group discussion where folks can share memories, thoughts and experiences from the time. You are invited to learn and share this historic era.

If you have any questions please contact the event organizer, Jim Hendrick.
