This energetic group of Village Hikers meets on the second Friday. They have hiked the trails of Monrovia Canyon Park up to the waterfalls, Cherry Canyon Trails, Santa Clarita Woodland Reserve, Chantry Flats, and the forest trail along the summit of Mt. Wilson. 

Continuing with our urban hikes theme, we’ll explore the streets and neighborhood around the top of Mt. Washington on Friday morning, June 14.  The walk is approximately 3 miles with scenic views; interesting homes; one long stair-walk down of 150 steps (without a rail); a steep hill up of almost ¼ mile (including a few flights of stairs); and some unpaved, narrow, uneven walking paths.  Wear hiking shoes and consider bringing your hiking poles to help with balance. At the end of the walk, if the meditation grounds of the Self-Realization Fellowship are open, we’ll take a quick (and quiet) detour through the gardens.  

Carpoolers will meet at the Pasadena Village parking lot at 8:00AM to carpool to the top of Mt. Washington. If you are not carpooling, please plan to arrive at the Mt. Washington start at 8:30. When registering, please indicate if you can drive and how many you can take.

Plenty of street parking is available along San Rafael Avenue, near the Fellowship grounds.  For navigation, use 3880 San Rafael Ave, Los Angeles 90065.  We’ll meet up at the intersection of Elyria Dr. and San Rafael Ave.   

If taking the freeway from Pasadena:  Take 134 west to the Colorado Blvd/Figueroa St exit.  Bear left to exit on Colorado. Stay on Colorado for 1.2 miles and make a left onto Eagle Rock Blvd.  Approximately 1.4 miles later, make a left onto El Paso Drive. Stay on El Paso for 1 mile, then make a right onto Cleland Ave, a left onto Terrace 49 and a right onto San Rafael Ave.  Stay on San Rafael about 1 mile to our starting point at 3880 San Rafael.

If taking surface streets: Travel on Colorado Blvd west, making a left onto Eagle Rock Blvd. Approximately 1.4 miles later, make a left onto El Paso Drive. Stay on El Paso for 1 mile, then make a right onto Cleland Ave, a left onto Terrace 49 and a right onto San Rafael Ave.  Stay on San Rafael about 1 mile to our starting point at 3880 San Rafael.

If coming from the South Pasadena area:  Take York Boulevard west to Avenue 50 and make a left. Stay on Avenue 50 for just over 1/2 mile, and make a right onto San Rafael Avenue.  Make a right onto Terrace 49 then a left to pick up San Rafael again. Stay on San Rafael about 1 mile to our starting point at 3880 San Rafael.
