This energetic group of Village Hikers meets on the second Friday. They have hiked the trails of Monrovia Canyon Park up to the waterfalls, Cherry Canyon Trails, Santa Clarita Woodland Reserve, Chantry Flats, and the forest trail along the summit of Mt. Wilson.

On Friday, April 12, we will go on a 3.5 mile urban hike that starts in Hahamonga Watershed Park and loops around the east side of La Canada Flintridge.  This hike was inspired by a suggestion from Claire Gorfinkel and has a bit of everything – walking trails, streets/sidewalks, and a creek crossing!

The park entrance is at the intersection of Foothill Blvd and Oak Grove Drive. Enter and park immediately south, in the unpaved spaces.  We’ll meet at the entrance at 8:00AM.  Hahamongna Watershed Park - Google Maps

We start by walking up Gould Canyon Trail, on the west side of JPL, then looping back on Horse Lane Trail, exiting across the street from St. Francis High School.

We’ll cross the 210 Freeway on the conveniently located and nicely maintained pedestrian overpass, descending to the Meadow Grove neighborhood.

We’ll wind our way south through the neighborhood to pick up Flint Canyon Trail which runs alongside the shaded, burbling Berkshire Creek.

Towards the end of the walk, we will cross Berkshire Creek.  There is no bridge. Your shoes, your feet and your ankles will get wet!

Parts of the hiking trail are uneven, rocky and deeply rutted from runoff. Please wear your hiking shoes and bring poles for balance.  At the start of the hike, the walk on Gould Canyon Trail is uphill for about a mile with a gradual incline.

Hahamonga Watershed Park has plenty of picnic tables for sitting, chatting and snacking after the hike.

If anyone would like to carpool from the Village parking lot, I will be there at 7:30AM and can take three extra.  Please let me know if you’d like this option.

IF YOU ARE COMING VIA THE 210 FREEWAY, DON’T EXIT AT BERKSHIRE.  At that time of the morning, the road is usually packed with traffic from parents dropping off their kids at La Canada High School.

If you have any questions please contact the event organizer, Jane Hufnagel.
