Please join Tiffany Wu, a Pasadena Village volunteer, for a screening of her directorial debut, Big Day, a 16-minute dramedy short. After more than 20 years working internationally as a visual effects producer in the film industry, Tiffany stepped behind the camera to write and direct her first film.
Inspired by Tiffany’s own experiences navigating her family’s expectations around marriage and weddings and ultimately choosing to elope in Las Vegas, Big Day isn’t anti-wedding. Rather, it explores the often funny and complicated space between what we want for ourselves and what our families and traditions imagine for us.
Following the screening, Tiffany will share the exhilarating and sometimes seemingly impossible journey of making her first film, including returning to school in her 40s to earn her master’s degree and making the decision to pivot from a 20+ year career in visual effects to writing and directing. She will also invite audience members to share their own wedding stories, family traditions, and memorable planning triumphs and disasters (if any). These conversations are especially meaningful as Tiffany continues to expand the world and themes of Big Day into a feature-length film.
