These walks are brisk, three to four milers. They are longer and more energetic than the Friday Urban Walks and will likely involve hills and a few stairs. The goal is to get our heart rate up and maintain or improve our fitness level. Walking levels will be a combination of pavement and unpaved walking paths.
This Wednesday, we will meet in the unpaved parking lot west of the Casting Pond in the Lower Arroyo. For navigation you can use 415 S. Arroyo Blvd. The driveway to the Casting Pond and parking area is at the intersection of S. Arroyo Blvd. and Norwood Drive.
The highlight of today’s 3-mile walk is to check out the lower Arroyo neighborhood that used to be Busch Gardens. From the Casting Pond parking lot we’ll walk south to La Loma, head up and out of the Arroyo to continue walking east on Hillside Terrace, looping around on San Rafael Ave and South Arroyo Blvd to Busch Garden Drive, where we walk down through the neighborhood to the Arroyo. Walking north on the Arroyo Seco Trail, we’ll make one more climb up to the rim of the Arroyo then head down at La Loma and back to the Casting Pond.
Please wear sturdy shoes. On the 2nd half of the walk, there is a point where we head up from the Arroyo on a trail that is eroded and a bit steep in places and hiking poles will be helpful.
Please bring water and consider wearing a hat. If you have any questions, contact the event organizer, Jane Hufnagel.
