Join fellow Villagers for a guided tour with the Friends of Ballona Wetlands! We'll begin at the Ballona Discovery Park, pass the Riparian Corridor, and end at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh. There is no cost, however donations of $5 per guest are strongly encouraged. Before the trip, you must complete a waiver, which you will receive after registering. Nathan will coordinate transportation through usage of the Village Van and Carpools. If you are open to driving in the carpool, please notify Nathan.
Accessibility
The terrain is mostly packed decomposed granite in the Discovery Park and on the Riparian Corridor making it flat and ADA accessible. For the final part of the tour, there are 5 steep steps with no hand rail down to a wood chip trail at the Ballona Freshwater Marsh. Attendees are welcome to continue on the full tour or turn around at any point according to their comfort. If we walk the entire route it will be a little over two miles, though groups often don't reach the full distance when it's warm out or attendees choose to slow things down. If you would like to attend but have concerns about accessibility, please contact Nathan.
What to Bring
Our guide suggests dressing in layers according to weather forecasts. "It can go from cool and breezy to very warm quite quickly, especially as the marsh sits down in a bit of a valley." Everyone should bring at least 16 oz of water, especially if the forecast is for warm weather, and good closed-toe walking shoes are essential!
