This is the fifth of five walks that cover the length of the Arroyo Seco, from Hahamonga Watershed Park to the confluence with the L.A. River and a bit beyond into Chinatown. Each walk segment is point-to-point, ranges from approximately 3 to 4.4 miles in length and includes riding Metrorail and/or Pasadena Transit.
This walk is approximately 3.5 miles and takes us from Lincoln Heights to the confluence of the Arroyo Seco and LA Rivers, over Elysian Valley, down to Solano Canyon and ending in Chinatown. A portion of the walk is on the pedestrian walkway paralleling the 110 freeway. The walk has two staircases to climb, the first has 45 steps and the second (a circular tower) has 48. The rest of the walk is mostly flat on paved surfaces. We’re doing it on Sunday morning to minimize the impact of traffic.
We’ll meet at the Heritage Square Metrorail Station at 7:30AM.
If you have time for breakfast after the walk, we are eating at Nick’s Café, two blocks east of the Chinatown Metrorail Station on Spring Street. If you join us at Nick’s, the walk is just over 4 miles.
There is a free Throne restroom at the Chinatown Station.
IMPORTANT
You must have a loaded Tap Card for the train fare.
I’ll distribute and coordinate Metrorail departure times from the greater Pasadena area to the Heritage Square Station the week of the hike. I will board at Sierra Madre Villa Station and sit in the first car. You can join me at that station or depart from one that is more convenient for you. Depending on where you board, you’ll be catching a train that leaves between approximately 7:02 (Sierra Madre Villa) and 7:15 (South Pasadena).
You can also drive to the Heritage Square Station to meet us at 7:30. The station has a large lot and parking is free. You'll still need a Tap card for the train trip from Chinatown back to Heritage Square.
