This is the third of five walks that cover the length of the Arroyo Seco, from Hahamonga Watershed Park to the confluence with the L.A. River and a bit beyond into Chinatown.  Each walk segment is point-to-point, ranges from approximately 3 to 4.5 miles in length and includes riding Metrorail and/or Pasadena Transit.

This walk takes us from South Pasadena to Sycamore Grove Park in Highland Park.  We’ll meet at the walking man sculpture (“Astride-Aside”) next to the South Pasadena Metrorail Station at 8:00AM and walk west on Mission, down to the arroyo and south on an unpaved walking trail to pick up the Arroyo Seco Bike and Pedestrian Trail which parallels the Arroyo Seco.  We’ll stay on the paved trail until mid-way through Highland Park, where we walk out of the creek channel at Sycamore Grove Park and take the train back to South Pasadena at the Southwest Museum Metrorail Station.

This walk is approximately 3.8 miles and mostly flat on paved surfaces. There are restrooms at the golf club in the arroyo and at Sycamore Grove Park.

Bring water and a snack.  We’ll stop for a refreshment break in Sycamore Grove Park. There’s also the option to stop for coffee in South Pasadena, at the end of the walk.

IMPORTANT

You must have a loaded Tap Card for the train fare back to South Pasadena after the walk.

There are several options for parking.

  • For $3.00, you can park in the Mission-Meridian Parking Garage at 807 Meridian Ave.
  • Free, three-hour street parking on Meridian or one of the side-streets starts one block north of Mission, starting at Hope Street.
  • Free, unrestricted street parking on Meridian starts three blocks north of Mission above Grevelia St.
  • If you plan to take the train to our starting point in South Pasadena, let me know and I’ll send departure times from other stations.
