This is the first of five walks that cover the length of the Arroyo Seco, from Hahamonga Watershed Park to the confluence with the L.A. River and a bit beyond into Chinatown.  Each walk segment is point-to-point, ranges from approximately 3.3 to 4.5 miles in length and includes riding Metrorail and/or Pasadena Transit.

This walk takes us from Hahamonga Watershed Park to Brookside Park in the Rose Bowl area. We’ll take Pasadena Transit Express Bus #53 at 8:00AM from the Del Mar Metrorail station to the entrance of Hahamonga Watershed Park in La Canada Flintridge. We then head south on the walking trail, through the park, over Devil’s Gate Dam and down to the west side of the Rose Bowl, on the paved walking loop to Brookside Park.  After taking a shady refreshment break at Brookside, we’ll catch a Pasadena Transit bus back to the Del Mar Station.

This walk is approximately 3.3 miles and mostly flat on sandy, rocky walking paths and pavement. There is a tiered descent from the top of the dam to the bottom.  A few short parts of the trail are hilly and we’ll be walking over a dry, rocky creek bed at the bottom of the dam. There are restrooms at Hahamonga and Brookside.

Bring water and a snack for the refreshment break in Brookside Park.

IMPORTANT

Bus Fare: Either bring your Senior Tap Card (with loaded fare) or bring two senior bus fares of $0.35 each (exact change needed).

Parking at the Del Mar Station is $1.00 for the first two hours and $2.00 per hour thereafter.   If you are taking the train from another Metrorail station to Del Mar, let me know and I’ll send station departure times.  If driving, please plan to arrive at the station by 7:40, to give yourself enough time to park and walk to the bus stop.

We’ll catch Pasadena Transit Express Bus #53 on Raymond Avenue, in front of the station and what used to be Le Grand Orange, at 8:00AM.  Please be prompt, the next bus does not come until 8:32 and we will not be able to wait for you.

After the walk, we’ll catch Pasadena Transit Bus #52 to take us back to the Del Mar Station.
