Cultural Explorations Group (CEG) meets once a month, on the 4th Thursday at a Village Member's home for a simple Potluck and to explore cultural topics of interest related to classical short stories, poems or films selected by the members. The discussion will be led by the member suggesting the selected topic. Limited to 15 participants.
Pat and Marsha Dawe will host the September CEG.
See the note about parking in the comments below.
This will be a special evening with Pasadena Village member, Nancy Pine, to discuss One in a Billion – One Man’s Remarkable Odyssey through Modern-Day China. The best way to get the background for our discussion is via Nancy Pine’s website for a 6 minute interview with Nancy by Val Zavala (KCET journalist). Nancy’s website also has a “One in a Billion” synopsis and reviews of readers that add background details. Additionally, China Institute recently posted a Nancy Pine interview with China Institute. The first 20 minutes gives Nancy’s background and a synopsis of the book which is then followed by an enlightening interview exchange. Also, you might want to consider buying the 270+ page book (Vromans has a handful of copies; or on Amazon, etc.) to learn many more details.
We look forward to an engaging discussion. We share a light potluck. Everyone brings something to share. Plates, forks, napkins and drinking glasses will be available, but no knives. Please post in the comments or contact Prakash to let us know what you will be bringing.
CEG is organized by Prakash Shrivastava and Toni Johnson. If you cannot make it to this event or are interested in future CEG gatherings please email your contact information to Toni Johnson and Prakash Shrivastava. The organizers of the CEG ask that all attendees be fully vaccinated.
